For all the hard knocks that American car companies have been getting lately, it’s great to see some good news, and I have to say, this is good, AND pretty impressive. Ford recently announced that it had cut its warranty repairs by nearly FIFTY percent since 2004.
Ford’s worldwide warranty repair costs are down by $1.2 billion over the last two years, and they’re making almost 50 percent fewer warranty repairs to U.S.-market Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles today as it was in 2004. That’s impressive and means, essentially, that the quality and dependability of Ford stuff is way, WAY up. That’s good news for all of us, and especially for Ford/the U.S. car industry.
Some specific models were also singled out for special attention. The F-Series Super Duty, Lincoln Mark LT and Shelby GT500 ranked at the top of their individual classes for “fewest things gone wrong (TGW).”
According to the latest U.S. Global Quality Research System study, “initial quality is now in a virtual tie with Honda-Acura and Toyota-Lexus-Scion for the 2008 model year.”
A virtual tie, dead even, with the likes of Honda and Toyota. Not bad Ford, good job!
