Who is the Star, Madonna or the M5?

BMW Films The Hire

After watching Audi’s mini-series exploiting the new A1 and walking away feeling sorely disappointed, I had to go back and revisit the BMW 8-film series that was released almost a decade ago. Enlisting A-list directors such as John Woo, John Frankenheimer and Tony Scott, the BMW film series produced a set of excellent short films starring Clive Owen and showcasing the BMW cars. By far, my favorite was the Guy Ritchie directed film, Star with his ex-wife, Madonna, playing the most spoiled and shallow diva on screen to date. Simply hilarious. Cinematography and editing of the driving sequences were top notch with Madonna’s character being tossed around in the back seat, like a rag doll in the fluff cycle of a dryer, of an M5 while Clive Owen tears up the streets. Stick around for the last scene and you’ll see why she needs to be sent through the wash cycle.

Video: Audi A1 "The Next Big Thing" Mini Series Part 6 of 6

The new Audi A1 episode movie: The final episode reveals the secret of “the next big thing”. And it´s definitely not what John (Justin Timberlake) or anybody expected. Visit the website http://www.audi.com/a1 to watch final episode once more and experience what happend behind the scenes.

This is the last installment of a six part mini-series and a huge letdown. The story was weak and the conclusion even weaker. I must admit the new A1 looks good, though.

I revisited The Hire BMW film series and even their weakest film short was 10 times better than this series. The legendary series of short “webisodes” featured A-list directors such as John Woo and Ridley Scott telling tales of the Hire, an enigmatic driver and the passengers that need his transportation and protection. My favorite was The Star. This short film was directed by Guy Ritchie and enlists his ex-wife, Madonna, to play the most spoiled and shallow diva on screen to date. Hilarious.

Audi please take note: storyline is key for any film to be successful and entertaining.

audi_episode2The new Audi A1 episode movie: In the second episode of “The next big thing” the pursuers are very close on their heels and a spectacular car chase begins. Then John (Justin Timberlake) and Toni (Dania Ramirez) are contacted by a mysterious person.

A car chase scene on busy downtown streets, bullets flying that can’t seem to hit a target, and dialogue that needs help from Quentin Tarantino with lines like, “Cut the action-movie sh**. I don’t have time for this.” Forget the supporting characters, it’s the A1 that is the star in this episode.

This is only the second episode, and the rest will be released every Tuesday every week for the next 4 weeks. We’ll be featuring each episode on this blog.

Volvo's Collision Avoidance System Fails, Result Is A S60 Swedish Pancake

2011 Volvo S60 CrashHuman error is likely to blame for new safety system failure

Volvo has been touting its collision avoidance system on the new 2011 S60, but there is one problem, in a recent test the system didn’t work. With no driver on board, the S60 slammed into the back of a truck. Evidently the failure was a result of the avoidance system being disabled.

In Volvo’s defense, the system was working perfectly earlier in the day. During the last test, a crash-test-dummy was stuffed into the driver seat and sent on its way. Volvo is claiming the car’s battery was not working right and as a result the system was disabled. Perhaps the system is disabled when the battery is low?

Audi_A1_thenextbigthing_screenshot1The new Audi A1 episode movie: The first episode shows John Frank (Justin Timberlake) in a café where he meets the attractive and mysterious Toni (Dania Ramirez) who is being followed. Through her, John is driven into “The next big thing” – action!

Looking at pretty photos of a car is really nice but nothing beats watching a car in full motion action. BMW’s The Hire short clips were the talk of the town during its time and people still refer to them every now and then these days and I won’t deny that the Madonna short movie played a part in making me fall for the E39.

Now Audi is following the same footsteps with a 6 part mini-series featuring Justin Timberlake, Dania Ramirez and the Audi A1. The mini-series is called The Next Big Thing and is directed by Swedish filmmaker Henrik Sundgren.
