2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe: R-Spec

Hyundai Press and News

Hyundai Genesis Coupe

Hyundai’s upcoming Genesis Coupe has garnered quite a bit of press, hype and anticipation since it first came onto the gearhead radar. It’s interesting that a brand that was originally derided for being low rent by lots of the import crowd, now has a model that the very same people are all in a lather for. And their foaming is also understandable. Rear wheel drive and good styling can make you a lot of converts in the auto world.

And now the same group of people can get even more worked up, because Hyundai just revealed that the new 2010 Genesis Coupe will also come in R-Spec form.

R-Spec, for those of you that haven’t noticed is becoming the de facto way of designating the factory hot rod specials. I always blamed it on Porsche, but it’s the Asian manufacturers that have taken the nomenclature and ran with it the hardest.

The Genesis Coupe R-Spec is priced at a very reasonable $23,750 and adds a series of performance orientated bits and bobs like a track-tuned suspension, 19-inch gunmetal-finish alloy wheels with performance summer tires, Brembo braking system, Torsen limited-slip differential, and, of course, R-Spec badging.

Hyundai keeps the price low and reduces weight by eliminating some non-essential features like Bluetooth, automatic headlights, cruise control, trip computer, chrome interior accents and steering wheel audio controls. And since Hyundai is new to the game, they gin up some preposterous names for the available colors on the R-Spec: Karussell White, Bathurst Black and Tsukuba Red.

Sounds like someone has been playing too much Gran Turismo.

That really is a nice deal, considering that the car’s used car prices in 3 years MIGHT make it my first car!
    Lets all hope…….
