OK Lambo, just what is going on with your Estoque four-door show car from this year’s Geneva show? First you say it’s on, then you say it’s off, then you say that you didn’t say it was really, really cross your heart and hope to die to infinity off. What gives?
To bring you up to speed, the Estoque (that’s pronounced es-toke-AY for you non-Iberians out there) was this big sedan that Lamborghini rolled out to many oohs and ahs in Geneva. Motorheads had visions of this thing squaring off against big Mercs, BMWs and Audis, not to mention the upcoming Porsche Panamera. Then we kind of dropped into “a press release every hour” mode, and Lamborghini said it was on, it was off it was … well, that’s where we are now.
Lamborghini says it’s not dead so stop talking like that. But by this time, the Estoque is looking to a lot of people like a not so bright idea. Is now the best time to be bringing a big sedan to market, especially one with such, er, distinctive styling? Look what is going on with Porsche and their mis-proportioned Panamera. Maybe Lambo had the right idea when they said that this would never see the streets.
