Monterey, Calif., Nov. 22, 2007 — Skip Barber Racing School, in conjunction with Monterey County Parks Department, Mazda North American Operations, and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, is offering a special safe-driving clinic for local new drivers aged 17 to 21 on Saturday, December 8.

This program is designed to expose new drivers to the techniques critical to true defensive driving, including emergency braking and emergency lane changes, car control skills practiced on the autocross, slide recovery skills practiced on the wet skid pad, and enhanced street awareness & road etiquette. All these activities are taught within the safe confines of the infield paddock of the world-famous Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, CA.

“This program is a great example of the private sector and the public sector working together to benefit the local community” said John Pinio, Director of Parks, Monterey County Parks Department.

Tuition is a reduced rate of $199 per student (the full-day Skip Barber New Driver program is normally $795). The clinic can be booked at the Skip Barber website www.skipbarber.com/driving_school/new_driver.aspx or by calling 1-800-221-1131. Participants must be residents of Monterey, San Benito or Santa Cruz counties and hold a valid California driver’s license (learner’s permits are not accepted).

Headquartered in Lakeville, CT., and operating out of five base locations (Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in California; Lime Rock Park in Connecticut; Road America in Wisconsin; Sebring International Raceway in Florida; and Road Atlanta in Georgia), Skip Barber is the world’s largest racing and driving school, available at more than 20 race tracks across the U.S. and Canada.
