2011 Infiniti QX56 Review – Bigger is Better!

  • Amazingly nimble handling with surprising lack of body lean
  • Huge interior and more rear legroom than flying business class on Jet Blue
  • Powerful engine with excellent acceleration
  • Beautiful interior with incredibly comfortable seats
  • The traction of all-mode 4-wheel drive
  • A twin-turbo V8 that has more than enough muscle to haul your Airstream trailer and gets respectable MPG

  • Controversial exterior styling
  • Ultra-wide chassis almost requires a “wide load” sign on the rear bumper
  • Cargo room behind third row is disappointingly small

The 2011 Infiniti QX56 is obscenely huge—across many dimensions. The 4WD version we tested tips the scales at 5,850 pounds or three tons with me on board. It’s also got a mammoth 5.6 liter engine that burps out 400 horsepower and 413 lb-feet of torque. Harnessing this engine is a seven-speed transmission which helps it to eek out an surprisingly efficient 14/20 mpg rating. The rig also roles on dubs; 275/50 series tires wrap 22 inch rims – yes, 22 inchers! In fact, at 208 inches long and nearly 80 inches wide, this behemoth is actually longer and wider than the Cadillac Escalade and positively dwarfs our 2006 Toyota Highlander. Infiniti keeps the jiggle to a minimum, though, by using hydraulic shocks to compensate for its mass providing surprisingly svelte handling.

2011 Infiniti M56x Review – Your personal Learjet for the streets

By Bill Clark

  • Prodigious power
  • Impeccable materials and craftsmanship
  • Game-changing luxury and technology

  • Computer-controlled powerplant
  • No V-8 growl, just a exhaust note that sounds manufactured

Infiniti’s new M-series luxury sports sedan has the brains and the brawn to compete with Bavarian and German luxury car manufacturers. Under the spotlight Infiniti has used its M56x as a showcase to illustrate how technology should be put to use in everyday life; abundant and ever-present, but imperceptible and noninvasive. The M56x offers power, luxury, and technology in ways that you didn’t know you needed, but once you experience them, you won’t want to live without them.

New Cars On the Horizon for 2010

Friday January 15th, 2010 at 3:11 PM

Lotus EvoraBy Greg Gaillard

If 2009 was a year of uncertainty, manufacturers’ products certainly didn’t show it. Buyers were able to choose from two new class-leading hybrids, a couple of new pony cars and several other creative designs that all pushed the boundaries of their respective segments. Despite the economic downturn with accompanied scrambling for solvency, the trend toward smarter, efficient cars took root and stood firm.

The list below includes exciting new products scheduled for production during calendar year 2010. From the buyer’s perspective many will be worth the wait as they represent new thinking and technology that are expected to carry manufacturers through the industry’s transition to Electric Vehicles (EV) as well as new form factors that suit today’s economy and lifestyle. If 2009′s LA Auto Show is any indication of what to expect in 2010, the trend toward efficiency and driver involvement will continue. And in some cases manufacturers are counting on strong sales to justify new partnerships and changes to old-school business practices. Even more than 2009, 2010 will focus on product first and provide consumers with several choices worth waiting for.

CarReview's Best Car Choices of 2009

New Year 2009-2010 SignpostContributing editors: Greg Gaillard, Alex Kramer, Kurt Gensheimer, Derek Mau

Despite 2008′s desperate measures to help auto manufacturers hold on to business as usual, 2009 brought only radical change leaving many old business practices and brands behind.

We have been spectators in this year of turmoil and watched the industry struggle to reinvent itself.  Two of The Big Three went bankrupt; one emerged with a global partner, the other became lean and focused.  Diesels are now faster than their gasoline counterparts. Nine out of ten EPA mpg champs are hybrids. VW bought Porsche while Porsche was buying VW.  Overall sales were millions of units short of expectations. Manufacturers now pin their hopes on the Chinese market, while Americans pray that the Volt is half as good as it needs to be. Somehow, during all of this turmoil Kia became cool.  What was once unthinkable has happened.

Amidst the mayhem consumer conservatism has redefined value to mean more than MSRP, monthly payments and residuals. Cars had better be good at what they do or people won’t buy them. The industry must meet the new expectation of great cars and real innovation. Tricky marketing and trend analysis will not build the product portfolios of the future.

While the industry was being shaken to its core, 2009 was a banner year for new technologies and remarkable products.  Read on to find out which cars persevered as CarReview’s best choices of 2009

2009 Infiniti G37 Sedan Review – An all-star sports car with four doors

2009 Infiniti G37 Sedan
By Mary-Ellen Ash

  • A rocket-car with superb engine power and acceleration
  • Big brakes for excellent braking control
  • Tight, crisp steering
  • Spacious and comfortable interior
  • Large boot cargo hold

  • Stiff suspension for a luxury sports sedan
  • Can’t extend limited trunk space by folding down the rear seats

An Infiniti car can always be seen out on the local roads and highways. They always receive strong reviews and compliments in many magazines and websites. Once I got into the G37, I understood all the hype. The Infiniti G37 is a stylish and powerful sedan with all its features adding up to a very attractive package. All the attention to details that went into designing and building this car are what makes this car so appealing.

CarReview's Best Car Choices of 2008

Happy New YearHappy New Year everyone!

Another year has passed by and it is time for reflection upon the past year, as well as looking forward to more good things happening in 2009. 2008 had the debut of the largely anticipated Nissan GT-R which ran rings around the competition from the European stalwarts such as the BMW M3 and Porsche 911. In 2008, gas prices reached an all-time high of over $4 per gallon and dropped below $2 a gallon in less than six months. I don’t even want to mention the controversy surrounding the subject of bailing out the big 3 American auto makers because that conjures up more pain that the taxpayers have to bear. Getting past the greedy oil brokers and money-grubbing banks, there were still some outstanding cars that came out in 2008. CarReview’s editors reviewed the cars for 2008 and picked their favorites. Below is our list of outstanding vehicles that don’t require any handouts from congress.

2008 Duel-at-De Anza autocross course
By Alex Kramer

Every year at the college where I work the auto-tech program hosts an autocross, the “Dual at De Anza.” For years I’ve contemplated entering the event, but either lacked the courage or the right car to do so. When I heard that CarReview.com would be testing a 2008 Infiniti G37 on the weekend of this year’s race, I gave Derek a call and with his blessing entered both of us.

As far as luxury sports coupes go, the Infiniti G37 is a fine example of how impressive this class of automobiles has become. Combining the refinement of the finest luxury sedans with some serious horsepower and handling prowess, the G37 feels most at home cruising down the highway at a high rate of speed. Would this large coupe have the right balance of power and cornering agility for the tight confines of an autocross course? We would soon find out.
