For many new car buyers, heading over to the local dealership for a test drive is part of the shopping routine. Unfortunately, going for a 10 min. spin around the block with an over-eager sales-person sitting shotgun doesn’t really help in evaluating a car, especially if it’s a high-performance vehicle.

Recognizing this flaw, Porsche has decided to hit the road this year and make its world-class cars available to the public, and allow for much more than just a brief test drive. The Porsche World Roadshow program will be stopping at 6 US cities this summer, offering extended test drives and a performance driving experience that allows prospective buyers to put select models to the test.

2010 Porsche Panamera S Review – the best of everything packed into one sportback parcel

2010 Porsche Panamera
By Greg Gaillard

  • A true Porsche without compromise
  • Peerless steering, handling and driver control across the range
  • Brilliant interior packaging and rakish liftgate provide remarkable utility and comfort for four
  • PDK transmission is possibly the best sporting automatic on the market
  • Build/materials quality on par with the best

  • It is not a Mercedes, BMW, Audi or Lexus in any way. Limited suitability for limo duty
  • More expensive than equivalently equipped primary peers
  • Styling is an acquired taste that may never be acquired
  • An extensive test drive is required to fully appreciate Porsche’s definition of luxury and refinement

Remember the Cayenne as the four-door Porsche that wasn’t? While an undeniable success story, the Cayenne was a shared platform spearhead into the burgeoning SUV market carrying only bits and pieces of Porsche DNA along for the ride. The Panamera is different. From its purposeful stance to the pervasive Stuttgart logic in every detail, it declares itself as a car designed to be driven.

techart panameraTechArt adds panache to the Porsche Panamera.

If the rather unique look of the Porsche Panamera is not enough for you, maybe you should look into the range of aftermarket goodies TechArt is offering. The Leonberg, Germany based company claims their body kits are of OE quality and we would have to agree. The new front bumper really does look like it came straight from Porsche’s plant in Leipzig. The body kit improves the look of the car without looking gaudy or losing the signature Porsche look.

The TechArt front bumper kit not only improves the look of the Panamera, it also may improve the aerodynamics of the high-end sport sedan. The three-part front spoiler should help improve high-speed stability and the redesigned front bumper helps cool the front brakes.

First Photos of Porsche’s Four-Door Baby: Panamera Gran Turismo!

Porsche PanameraWith the same fanfare as the Enquirer releasing photos of TomKat’s baby Suri, Porsche AG, Stuttgart has unveiled to the world their latest baby. Yes, the first official photos of the four-seater Panamera Gran Turismo:

And what proud parents the Porsche family must be. While retaining the classic Porsche-look, this is the company’s first sedan in all its four-door, touring car glory; with the typical Porsche sports car DNA and style, along with sporting driving dynamics, a generous and variable interior, and supreme driving comfort. Here’s the skinny on some of the Panamera Gran Turismo hardware surprises:

  • Placed up front the power is supplied by V-6 or V-8 engines flexing 300 to 500 horsepower of muscle!
  • It’s turbocharged with direct fuel injection for optimum efficiency!
  • Like all good sports cars the Panamera Gran Turisomo will deploy rear-wheel drive along with an option for all-wheel drive
  • Gears are shifted by a six-speed manual transmission or the company’s new PDK double-clutch, seven-speed, super-duper gearbox
  • Because it’s a touring car, with its coupe-like tailgate, the two rear seats fold down for extra cargo.
  • The Panamera will be making its world debut in spring 2009 and the first models will be at dealers worldwide in late summer of next year
