Pros:

  • Blazing acceleration
  • Sports-car-like handling and braking
  • Comfortable seating for four adults

Cons:

  • Sports-car-like ride all the time
  • Sluggishly-programmed paddle shifters
  • Addicting to drive fast

With a penchant for sports cars and a baby on the way, what’s a guy to do? I do love my 2007 350z, but how practical is it? Is there anything out there with 4 doors that could take its place? There really wasn’t anything I could think of with four doors that would foot the bill. That was, until I spent some quality time behind the wheel of a 2011 Infiniti G37 sedan. That’s right – 4 doors and a lot of fun!

2011 Infiniti G37 Sport Review – A coupe joins the league of extraordinary gentlemen

2011 Infiniti G37 Coupe Sport
By contributing editor David Colman

Hits:

  • Inconspicuously Fast
  • Affordable
  • Handsome

Misses:

  • Pretext back seat
  • Weak XM SAT reception
  • Stick Shift Vibrations

The Infiniti G37 Sport is Nissan’s gentrified version of the 370Z. Its defanged appearance is the perfect antidote to the Z’s frontal overbite. Its Gentleman’s Club interior reconstitutes the Z car’s objectionably plastic cabin into a mature environment replete with dual zone climate control, power adjustments for steering wheel position, and infinitely configurable leather sport seats . But the G37 coupe has lost none of the Z’ intense sporting character as a result of the cosmetic transformation. The Infiniti’s 3.7 liter V6, good for 330hp and 270 lb.-ft. of torque, rivals the identical power plant in the Z for brisk acceleration. The 6-speed manual transmission shifts with precision and alacrity. The stick is short, the leather festooned knob a pleasure to hold. The G37S will run the quarter mile in under 14 seconds at over 105mph, and complete the 0-60mph sprint in just 5.4 seconds.

2011 Jaguar XJL Supercharged Review – VIP luxury meets racetrack-ready performance

Friday May 6th, 2011 at 8:55 AM
Posted by: AKramer

2011 Jaguar XJL
Pros

  • Gobs of supercharged V8 power
  • Surprisingly nimble handling
  • Yacht-like interior luxury
  • Sublime B&W sound system

Cons

  • Outdated 6 speed transmission
  • Less than roomy interior
  • Sluggish touch screen interface

The days of the lumbering land yacht are over, or so it would seem, after driving the new 2011 Jaguar XJL Supercharged. Buying a large luxury sedan like the XJL used to mean lots of cushy, roomy opulence, with the priority firmly placed on pampering over performance. Now, with close to 500 hp under the hood and huge, sticky sports car tires at the corners, this big Jag can do VIP duty in the evening and hit the racetrack the following morning.

2011 Audi S5
By Twain Mein

Pros:

  • Timeless styling. This is a beautiful car that will age well
  • Steering and road feel
  • Rear wheel bias gives rear wheel drive feel with all wheel drive safety
  • Ride quality

Cons:

  • Rear seat room is tighter than Houdini’s escape coffin
  • You pay to play at the gas pump
  • Sunroof doesn’t slide back

The Audi S5 is the high performance version of the A5. It features 354hp vs. the A5’s 211, a whopping 67% increase. With this added horsepower, 0-60 times drop from over 6.5 to just under 5 seconds. This performance comes at a price premium, boosting base MSRP from $36.9k to $53.1k while dropping combined mileage (for the manual transmission variants) from 24 to 17mpg.

The model we tested had the upscale “Prestige Package”. The Prestige package adds the Multimedia Interface (MMI), driver seat memory, and parking assist with rearview camera. This car also had several additional options including the “Sprint Blue Pearl Effect” paint ($475), Navigation ($2,550), Sports Rear Differential ($1,100), and the 505-watt, 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium sound system ($850). These options, coupled with the base price of $53,100, Gas Guzzler tax and destination charge, brought the total to $60,250.

Pros:

  • Turbine smooth engine
  • Quiet cabin
  • Clean center stack
  • Seats that do everything

Cons:

  • High price
  • Gear change stumble between 1st and 2nd
  • Annoying squeak in driver’s door

Say you’re a C-level executive at a major company and you wanted to spend around $125,000 for a new luxury car, what would you buy? What features or qualities would you want? V8 – check. All-wheel drive – check. High tech features throughout – check. There are less expensive cars to choose from, but the Mercedes-Benz CL550 4Matic Coupe fits the bill on the spec sheet.
