Lotus Evora GTE

On display in the Lotus booth at this year’s Pebble Beach d’Elegance event held in Carmel, California is the Lotus Evora GTE Road Car Concept making its world premiere. Lotus has a goal of being successful in the new global motorsport GTE category, which includes the infamous 24 Hours of Le Mans and built the Lotus Evora GTE race car for the competition series. For the civilized folk who do not have a racing license, Lotus built the Evora GTE Road Car Concept with some serious intentions.

The Evora GTE Road Car Concept is motivated by a 420 hp supercharged 3.5-liter V6 race developed engine that sends it power through a sequential AMT racing gearbox.

Paris Motor Show News: Lotus Reveals Elite Hybrid

2014_Lotus_Elite_hybrid_300x200Lotus has just released the full images and details of the 2014 Lotus Elite – their latest supercar which will be unveiled at the 2010 Paris Motor Show.

Meant to redefine modern classic, the 2+2 is a stunning piece of engineering and design. Despite being relatively compact (4.60m long, 1.90m wide, and 1.32m tall), Lotus has managed to give the car dramatic styling and a retractable hard top.

As for the new – and aggressive – design of the car, the man behind it, designer Donato Coco, left no stones unturned in giving the Elite a more aggressive approach by adding some depth to the car’s front fascia. As somebody who noted the two-dimensional looks of prior Lotus vehicles, Coco’s design of the Elite is about as good as it can get for a brand looking to be edgier and more upscale that what its previous reputation suggests.

New Cars On the Horizon for 2010

Friday January 15th, 2010 at 3:11 PM

Lotus EvoraBy Greg Gaillard

If 2009 was a year of uncertainty, manufacturers’ products certainly didn’t show it. Buyers were able to choose from two new class-leading hybrids, a couple of new pony cars and several other creative designs that all pushed the boundaries of their respective segments. Despite the economic downturn with accompanied scrambling for solvency, the trend toward smarter, efficient cars took root and stood firm.

The list below includes exciting new products scheduled for production during calendar year 2010. From the buyer’s perspective many will be worth the wait as they represent new thinking and technology that are expected to carry manufacturers through the industry’s transition to Electric Vehicles (EV) as well as new form factors that suit today’s economy and lifestyle. If 2009′s LA Auto Show is any indication of what to expect in 2010, the trend toward efficiency and driver involvement will continue. And in some cases manufacturers are counting on strong sales to justify new partnerships and changes to old-school business practices. Even more than 2009, 2010 will focus on product first and provide consumers with several choices worth waiting for.

Lotus Exige

Uh oh, bad news for any of you out there that own a Lotus Elise, and Exige or even a Tesla Roadster (you lucky people), seems there’s a recall on. According to the NHTSA, on some Lotus Elise, Exige and Tesla Roadsters, the rear hub flange bolts that have been deemed defective. The three vehicles’ bolts may be under-torqued and could become loose, meaning suspension bits could work loose (I will not go into detail about why this would be bad, CarReview readers are brighter than that).

You’re also bright enough to already know that the all-electric Tesla Roadster is based on the Lotus Elise, hence the recall effects Cali’s finest eco sportscar as well as those two fine products from Hethel, England.

Lotus Evora Convertible Coming In 2012

Lotus Evora

Lotus, makers of light and nimble cars for time immemorial, has just announced that their upcoming Evora will also be available in a convertible variant. The coupe version of the Evora will be a 2+2, the first such configuration for a Lotus in quite some time, but the convertible version, in addition to loosing the hard top, will also do away with the two back seats. Meaning the drop top will also be a two-seater.

Apparently, the addition of the convertible is all part of Lotus’ plans to keep the buzz about the Evora on a boil by adding new features to the car each year. In addition to the 2+2, there will also be a model with a paddle-shift gearbox, a high-performance supercharged variant and then the convertible in 2012.

‘Purist’ Lotus Elise Model On The Way

Lotus Elise

I know, how can a car as pure as the fabulous Lotus Elise get any purer, well, leave it to the boffins from Hethel to figure out a way, oh, and the newest version will cost you less dough.

Reports say that Lotus will soon offer a version of the Elise in the U.S. believed to be called the Elise Purist Edition. Based on the Elise Sport package, the new model will throw in some goodies from the Touring package, but will not include the leather-covered transmission tunnel, leather door panels or iPod integrations from the Touring package. It will include leather seating, CD player, air conditioning, a Momo steering wheel and a start button. Normally, an Elise buyer would typically expect to lay out around $49,000 for such a well-equipped Elise, but the Purist Edition should start at just $43,995, which is $3,255 LESS than the base model Elise currently lists for at $47,250.

2010 Lotus Elise: Cleaner, More Fuel Efficient And Still Fun

Lotus Elise

With Earth Day almost upon us, allow me to point out that one of the best sports cars out there, regardless of price or engine size is not only a great performer, but is a very clean and very fuel efficient ride.

I am, of course, talking about the Lotus Elise, a car with handling so stupendous, it can run rings out of 98% of the cars out there. So what gives, why talk about the Elise now? Because the new 2010 model has just been announced, and some very important figures have made very nice gains. The British automaker has carried out various tweaks to the Elise’s powertrain and aerodynamics helping the 2010MY Elise return a 9% reduction in CO2 emissions and similar increases in fuel economy. The Elise S shows significant improvement in fuel efficiency, raising it’s combined cycle MPG numbers from 28.3 mpg to 31mpg.

Lotus To Build Electric Car

Monday January 5th, 2009 at 10:11 AM
Posted by: tonyb

OK, now we’re talking … hear that Tesla? That is the sound of one of the most impressive car companies on the planet zeroing in on you. Lotus, makers of the best handling cars in the world since … well, since Colin Champan founded the company, has said they will be looking into making full electric cars.

Those of you who have been paying attention know that the Tesla roadster is, essentially, a Lotus Elise that’s been stretched & massaged and had batteries and electric motors stuffed where the Toyota mill used to sit, so for the boys from Hethel to go the other way seems like an easy change of polarity.

Lotus Sport 2-Eleven GT4 Supersport Racer

Wednesday November 19th, 2008 at 11:1111 AM
Posted by: tonyb

Can I license one of these things for road use? Seriously? … OK, I’m just kidding, but it makes you think doesn’t it.

What we have here is an uprated version of Lotus’ latest track car the 2-Eleven. This one is called the GT4 Supersport. The bodywork is tweaked here & there, there’s a full roll cage and not only does it crank out more power, but it also has a sequential shift gear box. That would be 270 HP with 181 lb-ft of torque. All that gets transmitted to the tarmac through the new 6-speed sequential box with a push/pull shift lever.

And here’s another neat little trick Lotus has added to the GT4: The gear position and shift indicator is hooked into the engine management computer so torque output is varied during shifts. You can upshift without lifting your foot, and the engine automatically blips the throttle for downshifts. Slick huh? I’m sure that will really help with lap times, but the purist in me (and probably Colin Chapman from his grave) frowns on the dilution of driver involvement.

Sadly, Lotus is only going to roll out 10 of these beauties, and the price will be (gulp) £78,255 Which is around 125,208 good ol’American dollars. Which is a lot, but still, you KNOW this has got to be a blast.

Now, where could I hang a license plate?
