Hyundai announced the new 2012 Veloster at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The Veloster is a 3-door coupe hatchback that features a 1.6-liter GDI Gamma four-cylinder, 138-horsepower engine with six-speed manual transmission (or the optional six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission) with an estimated 40 mpg highway rating. The Veloster has one door on the driver-side and two doors on the passenger-side; however, the exterior door handle has been disguised to keep the coupe look. The second passenger-side door is a forward-hinged rear door, unlike the MINI Cooper Clubman.
The Veloster’s design also draws inspiration from motorcycles with black A-pillars for a motorcycle helmet visor appearance for the glass, motorcycle tailpipe inspired air vents, sport bike fuel tank looking center stack and controls, and a center console that looks like a bike seat.
