Video of Nissan Esflow EV Sports Car Concept – The Sports Car of the Future?

Monday February 14th, 2011 at 2:22 PM

Nissan Esflow EV Sports Car ConceptNissan will unveil the new electric Esflow EV sports car concept at next month’s Geneva Motor Show, to demonstrate how a sports car of the future might look.

Nissan’s Esflow is based on the technology from their first practical Zero Emission car, the Nissan Leaf; however, the powertrain is tuned to offer a more sporty driving experience with rear-wheel drive and two motors. The two electric motors are positioned above the axis of the rear wheels to control the left and right wheels independently, producing optimized torque (60mph/100kph in under 5 seconds), vehicle stability, and efficient power regeneration. Like the Leaf, the motors will be powered by laminated lithium-ion battery packs, but will be situated low along the axis of the front and rear wheels, to help out the center of gravity, allowing the Esflow to travel over 150 miles (240km) on one charge.

Nissan Juke – The first crossover / crossover / crossover / crossover

Nissan-Juke-European-Model-300x200By Adrienne Gruben

No one talks about how ugly Shrek is anymore – it’s so beyond that – so hopefully people will stop wondering, like they’ve been doing a lot lately, whether the Nissan Juke is too funny-looking to develop a following. I guess when the Juke – introduced at last year’s Geneva Motor Show as the Qazana concept car, and this year as the Juke proper – goes on sale in the US this Fall, we’ll find out once and for all if people like its big ole’ (inverted) headlamps and wheel arches, and its futuristic Day Light Opening shape, or not.

Now, I still gotta give Nissan a “Ya think?” regarding their assertion at today’s press conference that the Juke “will stretch the boundaries of what ‘crossover’ means.” Nissan let us know that the Juke borrows its toughness from Nissan’s family of SUVs, but its “driving pleasure…stylish good looks…and 1.6 liter, turbo-charged, direct-injection engine” from the sports side of the family. There is also a meager resemblance to the sedan side, and it seems that while they were pregnant with the Juke, they kept whispering onto Mommy’s tummy the word “small.” Promptly confusing that smallness is the Juke’s 5 seat cabin and the fact that in sitting high over traffic, you feel bigger than you are; wait, maybe that means you are small, or medium? What?

Volvo Releases Teaser Video for the 2011 S60

2011 Volvo S60A Volvo drifting in the desert! Really?

Volvo has released an exciting new teaser video showing off the all-new 2011 S60 a month ahead of its public unveiling. The advertisement shows the new Swedish car blasting down the highway and drifting in the desert with dramatic music blaring in the background.

Much of the new S60 is still a mystery, but expect to see the existing five and six-cylinder engines to carry over. It has been rumored that a direct-injected, turbocharged, 1.6-liter will also be included in the engine lineup. There may even be a hybrid model in the future.

In the transmission department, a standard six-speed manual will hopefully be included. More than likely, a six-speed automatic will be standard. The video shows for a brief second the driver shifting an automatic transmission. In a video trying to show off just how sporty the new S60 is, Volvo really should of shown a manual transmission instead of the automatic.

TechArt singlehandedly creates Porsche Panamera aftermarket.

techart panameraTechArt adds panache to the Porsche Panamera.

If the rather unique look of the Porsche Panamera is not enough for you, maybe you should look into the range of aftermarket goodies TechArt is offering. The Leonberg, Germany based company claims their body kits are of OE quality and we would have to agree. The new front bumper really does look like it came straight from Porsche’s plant in Leipzig. The body kit improves the look of the car without looking gaudy or losing the signature Porsche look.

The TechArt front bumper kit not only improves the look of the Panamera, it also may improve the aerodynamics of the high-end sport sedan. The three-part front spoiler should help improve high-speed stability and the redesigned front bumper helps cool the front brakes.

2010 Volkswagen Polo Mk V Revealed At Geneva

Monday March 16th, 2009 at 8:33 AM

2020 VW Polo

Here’s the upcoming VW Polo, which just bowed at the Geneva Motor Show. Why is that important you ask, what’s the big deal about a Euro debut for a Euro car? Because VW recently announced that they will be bringing the Polo, long a standard in Europe, to these shores soon.

So, the new 2010 model which you see on the Geneva show stand is the same model that you will be seeing on the showroom floors and streets of America sometime soon. VW has been cagy about exactly when the U.S.-bound Polo will grace these shores, but all indications point to it coming in sometime later this year, or perhaps early next year (as a half year model, a la the first Mustang).

The Polo originally started out as a sub-compact model, sized, engined and optioned bellow the Golf. VW at first thought it was too small for the North American market (and they were probably right, about that), but as the Golf has grown and grown, so has the Polo. So the 2010 model is currently about the size of a Gen II or III Golf. Which ain;t that bad, or that small.

Actually, it’s kind of good. Small means light, for one thing. And that means better handling, and better overall performance. Especially when you consider that there already is an in house performance variant, the Polo GTi, and there’s already a Euro aftermarket for these things.

So look at the North American version of the Polo this way: It’s like a 2010 version of a Golf III that will be efficient, easy on the wallet and fun to drive. What’s not to like?
