2013 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport Review

Pros:

  • The “sport” aspect of this crossover stands out with a nice, tight suspension
  • The panoramic roof spans an impressive length of the roof, providing sunlight to both the front and back seats.
  • The Outlander Sport boasts a nice stance, looking like it’s prepared for virtually any conditions with aesthetic cues from the iconic Evolution line of rally bred street cars

Cons:

  • Underwhelming power – rated at 143hp, but not until 6000rpm.
  • The Outlander Sport seems to be plagued by hard plastics and bland designs giving it a cheap interior feel
  • Raked rear window and tiny cargo space limits usable volume

One day. Two Crossovers. Five Guinness World Records.
I admit to being fully intrigued the first time I saw the commercial for the new Mitsubishi Outlander Sport. Clearly Mitsubishi was having fun with this marketing campaign, but the underlying message that I heard was that this is going to be an exciting, sporty, compact SUV that packs enough performance to make the driving experience stimulating.

2011 Nissan Rogue
By Dan Tsuchiya

Pros:

  • Great mileage
  • Sporty Handling
  • Decent Value

Cons:

  • Lackluster acceleration
  • Suspension a little crude below 20 MPH
  • Seating not as comfortable as the competition

Sport utility vehicles, especially the front wheel drive kind, are essentially station wagons for those who don’t want to be seen in a station wagon.  Whether it’s the perceived ruggedness or the more sporty looks, small SUVs have been a hot market for young urbanites ever since the RAV-4 and CRV entered the scene many years back. With gas prices remaining high and car shoppers looking to downsize with the recession, this segment of SUV’s has continued to blossom over the past few years.

We recently received the slightly redesigned Nissan Rogue SV front wheel drive, which comes with new bumpers that give the sport utility a less egg-shaped profile and gets rid of the Pokemon face, a criticism of the earlier Rogue. Does the redesigned Rogue SV make the grade in the $25,000 and under field of cute-utes? Read on…..

2008 Nissan Rogue
By Alex Kramer

Pros:

  • Gutsy 4-cylinder engine
  • Confident handling
  • Sleek, bold exterior style
  • Excellent value

Cons:

  • Yo-yo for a transmission
  • Less than spacious interior
  • Poor rearward visibility

Small SUVs have become one of the fastest growing segments of the car industry, selling over 300,000 units last year. With gas at over $3 a gallon, it’s no wonder people are looking for cars that offer increased cargo room and all weather capability, yet don’t suffer much when it comes to fuel efficiency. The only surprising thing is that some of the major car companies still don’t offer a model to compete in this lucrative niche. For Nissan, that finally changes this year with the introduction of the all-new Rogue, a crossover SUV that seats 5 and offers optional all-wheel drive. Fortunately, the Rogue lives up to its name and should steal some thunder away from the competition. Read the rest of this entry »
