Likes:

  • Better rear legroom than a BMW 5
  • 130 lbs. less curb weight than 2011 Versa

Dislikes:

  • About as exciting as driving an Autopia car at Disneyland

Back in the Eighties, my Dad, who lived in snow-bound Boston, needed something besides his Mercedes SL to drive during the relentless winter months. He ended up selecting a Nissan Pulsar, bought from a dealer who wryly observed that “Everybody needs a dinghy.” Basically, the 2012 Versa is today’s version of the Nissan dinghy. Like the Pulsar, the Versa is small, unprepossessing, and noisy at full chat, but eminently practical. You wouldn’t choose it as your only vehicle, but rather as a useful addendum to a well-stocked garage.

Infiniti Etherea Concept Car – A New Type of Luxury

Infiniti Etherea Concept CarInfiniti will be debuting their compact luxury concept car, the Etherea, at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March. Geared towards younger car buyers who are looking for a “new type of luxury”, the Etherea will take elements of a coupe, sedan, hatchback and crossover to create a car that is distinctly different from anything currently available in the luxury compact class.

The Etherea concept car features the crescent-shaped C-pillar from the Essence concept car, high-tech interpretations of traditional Japanese materials and finishes, a new mechanical layout and innovative access arrangements, making the 4.4m compact car feel spacious.

Mercedes-Benz MFA Compact Coupe and SUVs to Hit the U.S. Starting in Summer 2013

Mercedes-Benz AMG B-ClassDue to the American preference for smaller cars and to keep up with rivals BMW and Audi, Mercedes-Benz announced it will be releasing a new compact car family based on the new Mercedes Front-wheel-drive Architecture (MFA), that will hit the U.S. starting in summer 2013.

The new series will include coupe (“baby CLS”) and SUV versions and possibly a convertible or a shooting brake version geared towards a younger clientele. There will also be two hatchback versions (next generation A- and B-class models) offered in Europe; however, Mercedes has no plans of bringing them to the U.S. unless there is a demand.
