2010 Acura MDX SH-AWD
By Holly Roberts

Pros:

  • Comfortable seats
  • Roomy interior
  • Ventilated front seats (my favorite in the summer!)
  • Nice safety features (that take a bit of getting used to)
  • All kinds of places to put things so they are out of sight

Cons:

  • 3rd row seating is just for kids or those with very short legs!
  • Bluetooth kept dropping calls
  • Collision Mitigation Braking system (I hated it!)

The MDX is definitely an SUV, and a very luxurious one at that.  Having seen a lot of MDX’s on the road over the last few years, I had no idea how roomy they really were.  In my opinion, the design of the 2nd generation model is a huge improvement over the first generation models.  Naturally, we get to review the most-blinged out models, and this one surely did not disappoint!

  • Roomy interior
  • Responsive engine
  • All the gizmos you could ask for
  • Price-a lot for the money
  • Safety-5 stars all around
  • All wheel drive

  • Weak styling
  • Rear seats do not fold down

The 2010 Acura TL comes in two main variants, the base TL with front wheel drive and 280 hp, and the SH-AWD with all-wheel drive and 305 hp. We tested the fully loaded TL SH-AWD with the Technology Package option and high performance tires. Additionally, new for 2010, our TL came with a 6-speed manual. Sticker price was $43,385 plus $810 for destination and handling.

2010 Acura ZDX

By Holly Roberts

  • Seriously comfortable seats
  • Excellent handling ability
  • Really fun to drive
  • Roomy interior
  • A place for everything and everything in its place
  • Massive panoramic glass moonroof
  • Gorgeous styling

Cons:

  • Back seats aren’t really geared for tall people
  • Manual and automatic shifting from 1st to 2nd was sluggish (that could just be a tuning issue)
  • I felt like the rear-view mirrors could have been a *bit* larger

2010 Acura RDX

By Bill Clark

Pros:

  • Fun to drive
  • Voice activated navigation helps keeps eyes on the road
  • Concert-hall 10-speaker stereo
  • Luxuriously appointed interior

Cons:

  • FIRM ride
  • That turbo is thirsty!
  • Minimal cargo room
  • Front fascia styling only a mother could love

Just when I thought there was no hope for the crossover segment, Acura introduces the game-changing 2010 RDX with a fresh new exterior look, a more luxurious interior, and a host of new technology features. The 2010 RDX is now available with a two-wheel drive option which offers improved fuel economy and a lower price point over its SH-AWD™ counterpart.

2010 Acura TSX V6 Review – The veritable TSX gets an engine upgrade for 2010

2010 Acura TSX V6
By Anson Tse

Pros

  • One of the best looking interiors
  • Smooth and quiet V6
  • Nimble handling

Cons

  • Some ergonomic details are a bit off
  • The V6 option is expensive
  • Underwhelming audio system

The Acura brand has been around for over 20 years now but it’s not top of mind when thinking about Japanese luxury vehicles. Lexus and Infiniti always seemed to gather the most attention, which probably attests more to marketing efforts than the vehicles themselves. I have noticed an increased marketing effort from Acura to generate more awareness of the brand, mainly touting its 5 star safety ratings across its whole line. But what about the cars themselves, how do they compare with everything else out there in this crowded premium sedan market?

CarReview's Best Car Choices of 2009

Monday November 23rd, 2009 at 3:1111 PM

New Year 2009-2010 SignpostContributing editors: Greg Gaillard, Alex Kramer, Kurt Gensheimer, Derek Mau

Despite 2008′s desperate measures to help auto manufacturers hold on to business as usual, 2009 brought only radical change leaving many old business practices and brands behind.

We have been spectators in this year of turmoil and watched the industry struggle to reinvent itself.  Two of The Big Three went bankrupt; one emerged with a global partner, the other became lean and focused.  Diesels are now faster than their gasoline counterparts. Nine out of ten EPA mpg champs are hybrids. VW bought Porsche while Porsche was buying VW.  Overall sales were millions of units short of expectations. Manufacturers now pin their hopes on the Chinese market, while Americans pray that the Volt is half as good as it needs to be. Somehow, during all of this turmoil Kia became cool.  What was once unthinkable has happened.

Amidst the mayhem consumer conservatism has redefined value to mean more than MSRP, monthly payments and residuals. Cars had better be good at what they do or people won’t buy them. The industry must meet the new expectation of great cars and real innovation. Tricky marketing and trend analysis will not build the product portfolios of the future.

While the industry was being shaken to its core, 2009 was a banner year for new technologies and remarkable products.  Read on to find out which cars persevered as CarReview’s best choices of 2009

Featured Review: 2009 Acura RDX

by Dave

Price Paid: $34000.00
Review Date: August 13, 2009
Overall Rating: 5 of 5
Value Rating: 4 of 5
Used product for: More than 1 year

Summary:
I love my RDX! I thought I would miss the car like feel by going to a SUV but not true with the RDX. It literally feels like a sports car behind the wheel. Very agile for a 4000 lbs vehicle! SH-AWD is AWESOME on both dry pavement and snow/ice. I just loved driving it in the snow this past winter. I purposely took the back roads unpaved by the plows just for the fun of it. Couldn’t get this thing stuck in the snow if I tried. Great AWD!!!

Acura ZDX Sporty Crossover Concept

Wednesday April 15th, 2009 at 8:44 AM

Acura ZDX

More concept news from this month’s New York Auto Show points the way forward to what SUV could be like in the future. Or at least what they could be like if the Honda Motor Company has its way. Say hello to the Acura ZDX. Sources say that the ZDX is ” … very close to [a] production version of the Japanese firm’s forthcoming crossover that is due to go on sale in the States in the fall of 2009.” So Acura is really going to build this thing, and it’s going to be hitting showrooms within months. Although at first bringing another SUV-like ride to the streets might not be the brightest of ideas, there is a certain rational here. BMW, to name one, is rolling out their X6 crossover SUVs as we speak, which has the same ‘it’s a coupe, and it’s SUV’ looks of the ZDX, so if Honda is wrong, they’re not the only ones being wrong.

Four New Cars From The Foreign 4 Knocking at the Door

Monday February 23rd, 2009 at 2:22 PM

Acura-Mazda-Hyundai-Kia

Who would have dreamed a year ago that the big names at the 2009 Chicago Auto Show would be Acura, Hyundai, Kia, and Mazda? Who would have ever imagined that a U.S. auto show would be dominated by companies from Japan and Korea?

Everyone thought the Chicago Auto Show would be a great opportunity for the Big 3 to pull out the stops and put a positive spin on a bad situation. But, instead of a much-needed infusion of confidence, all the Big 3 got was an old-school whuppin’ at the hands of the Foreign 4.

While the Big 3 was busy taking private jets to Washington D.C., closing production facilities and laying off workers at an alarming rate, it seems that the Foreign 4 has been hard at work.

Sure, the Big 3 did unveil some great new cars. But, questions still remain. How quickly can they get these vehicles to market? Are they earmarking bailout money for these projects? (They must be.) But, while the Big 3 wonders, the Foreign 4 plunders, and that’s the name of that tune.

4 new cars from the Foreign 4: The 2010 Acura TSX V-6, the 2010 Hyundai Genesis coupe R-Spec, the 2010 Kia Forte, and the 2009 Mazda MX-5 were displayed at the Chicago Auto Show.

2009 Acura TL
By Holly R.

  • Super comfortable seats, which hold you in place nicely when railing corners, accelerating quickly, or just cruising along the freeway
  • Easy to drive, easy to see out of and super sexy to look at
  • Pure quality on the interior and exterior. Not a rattle, creak, jerk when opening or closing anything
  • Really nice luxury features
  • Lots of thoughtful (and hidden) cubbyholes for things
  • Drives like a dream
  • Firm suspension that reminds you that this really has sports-car qualities, yet smooth enough to not be a bone-jarring ride
