New Porsche 911 GT3: At Home On The Road & On The Track

Porsche Press and News

2010 Porsche 911 GT3Ah, the Porsche GT series … such fun. The kind of fun that keeps lawyers employed, tire dealers stocking up on new meats and cops waiting with their radar guns at the ready.

Let’s take a deeper look at Porsche’s new performer, shall we?

For starters, the new GT3 is even more powerful, faster, and refined than its predecessor. That’s as it should be (like Porsche would make a car slower then their last one).

The new 911 GT3 makes its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show on 3 March, with Europe-wide sales starting in May, and hopefully, it will end up on these shores soon after (no US date has been given as of yet).

With the 911 GT3 there are two key areas to watch out for: performance and driving dynamics. As with all things 911, the GT3 has the proven six-cylinder naturally-aspirated power unit cranking out a maximum of 435 bhp, which is up 20 bhp over its predecessor. This was accomplished by increasing engine capacity by 200 cc to 3.8 liters and from the improved gas cycle: now not only the intake, but for the first time also the exhaust camshafts are adjusted by VarioCam.

The mill also offers a significant increase in torque at medium engine speeds meaning the new GT3 can accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds and reaching 160 km/h in 8.2 seconds. Top speed is 312 km/h or 194 mph. Not shabby.

The handling has been tweaked as have the brakes and there are slight interior upgrades.

But really, this is all about putting the power down on your favorite piece of tarmac.

We highly recommend your favorite bit of blacktop is on a track with this brute.

Have fun. Responsibly.
