2008 Nissan Rogue

Pros:

  • Gutsy 4-cylinder engine
  • Confident handling
  • Sleek, bold exterior style
  • Excellent value

Cons:

  • Yo-yo for a transmission
  • Less than spacious interior
  • Poor rearward visibility

Small SUVs have become one of the fastest growing segments of the car industry, selling over 300,000 units last year. With gas at over $3 a gallon, it’s no wonder people are looking for cars that offer increased cargo room and all weather capability, yet don’t suffer much when it comes to fuel efficiency. The only surprising thing is that some of the major car companies still don’t offer a model to compete in this lucrative niche. For Nissan, that finally changes this year with the introduction of the all-new Rogue, a crossover SUV that seats 5 and offers optional all-wheel drive. Fortunately, the Rogue lives up to its name and should steal some thunder away from the competition. Read the rest of this entry »

2008 Nissan Versa

Blings:

  • Sub $13K base price
  • Most interior passenger and cargo space in its class
  • Crisp, responsive steering
  • Attractive interior (automatic shifter excluded)

Dings:

  • Resurrected 1st gen. Prius exterior design cues
  • Slothful 4-speed automatic
  • Tires howl louder than a pack of malnutritioned coyotes

Ruling: It’s lacks the Sentra’s sporting soul, but Nissan’s new entry-level whip makes up for it in quality and value.

2008 Nissan Armada Review – Living Large the American Way

2008 Nissan Armada

Pros

  • Powerful V8 engine
  • Spacious, luxurious interior
  • Commanding road presence

Cons

  • Too many rattles and buzzes
  • Unrefined ride quality
  • Guzzles gas

What a difference a few years makes. Not long ago Detroit couldn’t make enough truck based SUV’s, with Explorers, Expeditions, and Suburbans flying off of dealer lots and into driveways all over America. Now, with gas prices hovering over $3 a gallon and global warming on everyone’s mind, the tide seems to be turning against large truck based SUVs. For Japanese manufacturers this must be especially bittersweet, since they have only recently tried to compete in the large SUV market segment. Introduced in 2004, the Armada is Nissan’s answer to the American desire to live large and look good while doing it. Although a bit late to the party, the Armada has plenty of swagger and should draw some eyes away from the usual contenders. Read the rest of this entry »

2009 Nissan Murano

NASHVILLE, Tenn. The original Nissan Murano set new standards for style and sportiness when it was first introduced, becoming, in essence, a “class of one.” The all-new, second generation 2009 Murano elevates that unique position with new exterior and interior designs, enhanced technology and a premium driving feel resulting from a new, advanced platform and continued refinement of Murano’s standard 265-horsepower V6 engine (an increase of 25 horsepower over the previous generation) and advanced, second-generation Xtronic CVT™.
