Looks like there’s plenty of changes in store for the upcoming 2010 BMW 7 Series. There will be a new straight-six diesel engine cranking out 306 horsepower in the 740d, and the 730d will get a BluePerformance technology pack, and an M Sport package will be available for the entire range, and finally, all-wheel drive will finally be available in 7 series models.

For now, all these diesel goodies will be Euro-only, but there’s no reason to keep them there. The new 740d will hit the showrooms of Europe this autumn, equipped with a revised version of BMW’s 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged straight-six diesel engine cranking out 306 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque at a low, low 1,500 rpm. The new mill should motivate this tank of a ride from zero to 100km/h in 6.3 seconds and tops out at an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. And it does all this while getting 34 mpg.

The aforementioned 730d with the BluePerformance package features a 245HP 3.0-liter straight-six diesel with a NOx storage catalyst to reduce nitric oxides and will turn in 34.5 mpg.

BMW will also finally add all wheel drive to their top of the line luxo-boat 7 starting with the 2010. The electronically controlled xDrive all-wheel drive system will be available on the 750i and 750iL, but not on the diesels (yet). The front-to-rear power split is 40:60 with up to 80 per cent of the drive power going to the rear axle in a bend.

And finally, the 2010 7s will get the new M Sport package for all engine variants in both normal and extended wheelbase. On the outside, you get aerodynamic packages and additional chrome trim, dark window surrounds and 19-inch or optionally 20-inch M light-alloy wheels. Also the electronically controlled BMW Dynamic Drive also comes standard in the M Sports Package for the 7 Series.
