2008 Honda Accord EX-L Sedan First Impressions Review

Setting the bar… that’s what the Honda Accord specializes in and that’s exactly what it does with the new 2008 Honda Accord EX-L

I’ve driven the past four generations of Honda Accords and was not to eager to try out the new 2008 model. They had a tendency to keep going and going in a utilitarian but uninspiring way.

But when I got this new Accord for review, I was stopped in my tracks. It is gorgeous inside and out. It seems that Honda has really put in an effort to build cars that have a personality. They do their job well but now they’re interesting and inspiring to drive. Then Honda Element, Odyssey and Fit are fine examples of this.

The Accord is now a big car. It’s about the size of a 5 series BMW or an Acura TL. The exterior design is sculpted with a modern eye. The front of the car is not very distinctive but the side and rear profiles are stunning.

Inside the car, the magic continues. The cabin is so nicely laid out and finished that it rivals those of the Acura, Lexus and BMW marks. The steering wheel is attractive, ergonomic and functional. The dashboard has smooth flowing lines that lead to the center console controls. The navigation screen is recessed high on the dashboard so the driver’s eyes don’t stray too far from the road.

And finally the driving experience is impeccable. It is still swiss-watch reliable and predictable. But now, with the V6, the power is deliberate and generous. The shifting is flawless. And the ride is supple and achieves a great balance of handling and comfort for an everyday passenger car.

We know Honda Accords are good but we are truly floored by this one. The bar has been set again.
