Aptera Delays Deliveries to October 2009

Press and News

ApteraAptera, three wheeled darling of the alt car set (and prop in the upcoming Star Trek movie) has said they will be pushing back their planned early-2009 first deliveries until October of this year. Originally, Aptera was planning to have the first, er, cars (although they technically register as a motorcycles, thanks to the three-wheel configuration) to customers by the end of 2008, that slipped to early 2009, but now they’ve gotten more realistic and have moved their first delivery date to later this year.

Aptera expects to have a “production-intent” vehicle done and ready to go within ten days, but that one is staying with the company for test & evaluation purposes.

The reasons for the delay all seem to be engineering based, fiddling with this minor design problem or that. these include resolving such issues as the ability to grab some food from a drive-through window, and switching from rear to front wheel drive,

Volume production for retail deliveries is now scheduled for October 1, 2009.
