2008 Volkswagen Passat Turbo – A Great Value…Depending on Options

Expert Reviews Volkswagen

By Kurt Gensheimer

  • Powerful yet fuel efficient 2.0T engine
  • More room than a Manhattan loft
  • Smooth 6-speed manual transmission
  • Terrific highway cruiser

  • Goofball keyless ignition system and e-brake
  • No stereo controls on steering wheel
  • Front end feels heavy with noticeable understeer
  • Depending on options, pricing can get ridiculous

Ruling: In its base Turbo trim, the Passat is incredibly powerful and fuel efficient, and an outstanding overall value. But once you surpass the $30K threshold, all bets are off.
