  • Smooth 6-speed manual transmission
  • Terrific highway cruiser

Dings:

  • Goofball keyless ignition system and e-brake
  • No stereo controls on steering wheel
  • Front end feels heavy with noticeable understeer
  • Depending on options, pricing can get ridiculous

Ruling: In its base Turbo trim, the Passat is incredibly powerful and fuel efficient, and an outstanding overall value. But once you surpass the $30K threshold, all bets are off.
