I have found my twin brother! My wife drives a 2006 Freestar, I had a 1998 Sable wagon for years, I owned an 1988 Merkur Scorpio for years, and I'm in the middle of buying a 2009 Taurux X Limited. (all mentioned in the review) Oh yeah, and like Larry I'm an engineer.

Just started leasing the Merlot/Camel Limited just like the one in the review. SYNC rocks and Microsoft should be pretty upset that Ford tied it to one of the worst audio systems on the market. There is lots of bass. Lots of high frequancies over 2000hz. Everything else is weak and cannot be tuned. They need a mid-range level control.

This car is a rocket compared to my 10.5 second 0-60 Grand Caravan!

I read some forums about the "High Pitched Whine" sound. There were a few comments about that sound they heard. But my Freestyle have definitely "NO" whine in "high pitch". It is more like a "LOW" pitch moo... buzz sound during acceleration. I am thinking may be there were different factory adjustments among our Freestyles. Mine sounded like as I explain, driving a F-150, only quietly muffled.

My problem with the Freestyle was not the lack of seat adjustment, which is the same on the two cars. Rather, I couldn't get the seat comfortable in the Freestyle with enough leg room. One problem was leg length, the other was wheel well taking up some of the room. For some reason the Taurus X seemed to be a touch better in a way critical to me.

The CVT would wind up to higher RPMs faster (which has a high pitched whine), which surprised a lot of people not used to CVTs. The engine was also noisy which compounded the issue. These were complaints of many, and I found it to be true. But it didnt' bother me that much. Overall, the power and fuel economy of the Freestyle was good, IMO.

LarryQW stated he found the Freestyle's CVT made a "whine" sound that he found irritating.

I own an '05 AWD SEL Freestyle and I haven't heard this whine from my CVT. But it could be that I am not specifically listening for it. I never had a vehicle with a CVT and I love showing it off to friends that want to go for a ride. Look ma, no gears!

Also, as mentioned in the other reply, my Freestyle driver seat will tilt forward or back. I am not talking about the seat back, I am talking specifically of the chair bottom itself. The front can be tilted up to support longer legs. I normally put the seat bottom flat.

My wife, 4'8" tall, prefers the seat bottom to tilt fowards on a downward angle. This allows her shorter legs to manulipate the pedals with greater ease. With regret, we didn't get the power pedals.

I never considered that I am driving a "station wagon"... OMG I have become just like my parents... practical.

Yours aye!

A mistake on the Freestyle driver seat. The driver's seat cushion on Freestyle also available with power tilted front up/down and back up/down for support of long thighs.

I also like the TaurusX but I took advantage of the huge saving on my fully loaded Freestyle instead of wait for the TaurusX.
